Today, Sunday Sept 18, 2011 at 2:00 pm I officially began my 2-year term on the Board of Directors of the  Victorian Order of Nurses', as a Member-at-Large. It is hard to put into words the feeling this brings, a mix of being honoured, flattered, excited, and a bit of timidity when considering the responsibility of the board and implications of our actions and advice. Regardless, I've had a big smile on my face most of the day, and my mind has already started to be stretch with what I'm learning. I really am excited to see how I can grow and work to bring as much as I can to the table.

For now I'll keep it brief, but I've been asked to join the board to bring a mix of clinical, young healthcare professional, and information technology perspectives to discussion. Despite not being as seasoned as others on the board my mix of interests, education, and various levels of experience in those areas will be an asset. I've been asked to join the board's committees on Human Resources as well as the Quality, Risk and Client Safety. Both will be fascinating appointments as VON looks to continue to strengthen and grow the "VON Family" (staff and employees) and continue to improve the services it delivers as well as met new regulation requirements and accreditation .

Before I say much more about about the appointment, I want to say thank you to all those who have supported and encouraged me throughout my career. Everything I'm doing is so reflect of the amazing people I have worked with, learned from, and been inspired by. I would not be here without you. I can't wait to continue to learn and grow in this new position and can only hope that I can pay forward your kindness.
