Over budget

In a world that seems to be busy enough I love the way web applications can help keep me accountable. This morning I had a friendly reminder from Mint.com that I had exceeded my coffee budget. Without doing week or month end totals this application sent me an update to let me know I was not living within what I had set as my goal. A simple reminder and I can start to adjust my behaviour.

Now automated services can't tell us everything. For example, the reason my budget was blown is because I am buying bags of coffee for work, which I generally share with others. It also adds a $6 meal at Tim Hortons to my coffee budget. So this number has to be taken with a grain of salt. Still a great reminder during my week to skip the Starbucks while waiting for a friend and to keep using my travel mug.
